Kick Off!
2006's gonna be a totally KICK-ASS year! WOOHOO!
Had my first annual Kick-Off since joining my current company in July 2005. For the uninitiated, this Kick-Off is held during the first week of January every new year. It's where the higher management meets and shares with everyone the objectives and goals for the new year, and the action plans they're planning to undertake.
Started at 9am and ended round 4plus pm. Bloody fruitful session it's been. Lest you groan and think, "How interesting can meetings be?", let me tell you that this Kick Off has totally exceeded my expectations. Totally. Mine was filled with witty humor, interesting rapid-fire exchange of ideas, and it is this kinda brainstorming sessions with the 'Eagles' that I particularly enjoy. You can say I've found the kind of company I wanna be with and wanna be in league with. Ambitious? Not really. Just that I've had enough of naysayers and negative people who only grumble about their lot and not voicing out their unhappiness to their superiors or DOING something about it. Plenty of them in the office.
Then there's those who gossip and magnify issues that they themselves don't even wanna do something about. The least one can do, is to bring it up bravely. If the company blacklists you as a result of your outspokeness, then I think it's time to look elsewhere for better opportunities. That's my belief and working style. Never victimize yourself, for God's sake! Be it work, interpersonal relationships, etc.
Of course, brilliant ideas can only remain ideas without proper planning on how to realise them. The time, though short, was sufficient for us to capture the gist of our crafted path towards the goals put forth on the table. I'm glad I spoke up during the action plans on the difficulties faced by my department, and to attain the cooperation of fellow partners. Especially thankful to my CEO, who was there to finish my sentences and emphasize on my points when the rest seemed to overlook/slight my suggestions. Why would they do that? I don't wanna know and it's not important. The key person is my CEO and big bosses. He and our Senior Product Manager has emphasized and re-emphasized on the BIG role Marketing has in every successful publicly-listed company. The importance of "Storytelling" and making our capabilities a "Heritage" that A***scan can be easily associated with.
This coming weekend of 14th and 15th would be yet another great opportunity for me to bond with the higher executives. I've been requested by my CEO to join the Outbound Team-building Camp that'll be held in Mawaii, JB. According to HR, the 2D1N camp costs a cool S$500+++ per head. Higher management and a selected few others like me have been signed up for it. Really looking forward to it.
Our most immediate goal is to become an IPO team in order to make our IPO Dream a reality. The goal that I've set for myself since stepping into this company has never been so fuelled before. That is to create a legacy for this firm. No, I'm not being noble. Reasons are rather selfish I would say >>
1. To increase my bargaining power in the company
2. To get headhunted
3. To be a person whom the company will fondly remember for a long time (even after I left)
Impossible? Not really. I am already working on it. Lots of stuff to do, and a long way to go. But the path is illuminated and I know I am not alone.
Cheers to a kick-ass year ahead!!!
